Russian Embassy deplores suspension of Radio Sputnik Armenia's license
The Russian Embassy in Yerevan has condemned the decision to suspend the license of Radio Sputnik Armenia.
Armenia’s Television and Radio Commission announced late on Wednesday that the license of Tospa, the official broadcaster for Radio Sputnik Armenia, was being suspended for 30 days over "offensive" remarks by Russian TV presenter Tigran Keosayan.
"We regret that the decision of the public regulator will affect Armenian radio listeners’ absolute right to receive information from the sources they prefer,” the embassy said in a statement on Thursday.
“Notably, the decision to suspend the license of the Russian media branch in our friendly Armenia was made only a week after the constructive consultations on December 14 between the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media and the Armenian Ministry of High-Tech Industry, during which the parties agreed on close cooperation to resolve all arising disputes.
“This step cannot but look like a concession to those who are increasingly advocating the rupture of traditional, mutually beneficial and allied relations between Russia and Armenia," reads the statement.
