Yerevan City Council starts meeting after quorum ensured
The Yerevan City Council started its plenary sitting on Tuesday after members of the opposition Public Voice faction ensured a quorum.
A total of 36 councilors representing the Civil Contract, Republic and Public Voice factions registered for the meeting before Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced its opening.
Later, members of the opposition Mother Armenia and National Progress factions joined them.
The Mother Armenia bloc had announced a boycott of Civil Contract’s plans to hike taxes and fees in the capital to be debated at today's sitting and urged the other opposition factions to join it. Its members accused the Public Voice councilors of "betrayal" after they decided to attend the meeting and ensure a quorum.
