'Aurora's Sunrise' among best animated movies of 2023 by MovieWeb
Aurora's Sunrise has been ranked among the 16 Best Animated Movies of 2023 by MovieWeb.
"The animated portions of Aurora's Sunrise illustrate Aurora's journey in a way that simply wouldn't be feasible otherwise. Through the utilization of Armenian symbolism along with interview segments and archival footage, we're given an intimate viewing of Aurora's life against the backdrop of the Armenian Genocide. For those who may not have a full grasp of the Armenian Genocide's impact, Aurora's Sunrise presents this tragic event from a unique and informative perspective," reads the review.
A co-production of Armenia, Lithuania and Germany, Aurora’s Sunrise tells the extraordinary story of Aurora Mardiganian, who survived the Armenian Genocide as a teenager, and later came to Hollywood where she starred in a 1919 silent film based on her account of the massacre.
The film was made possible with the academic contribution of the Zoryan Institute and is based on its Oral History Archive.
