Armenian politician calls for close alliance with Russia and Iran
Opposition politician Eduard Sharmazanov, a senior member of the former ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), calls for Armenia’s close alliance with Russia and Iran to ensure the country’s security in the future.
“The EAEU and CIS meetings in St. Petersburg, as well as the visit of a senior Iranian diplomat to Armenia confirm that regional forces are beginning to play a leading role in the South Caucasus,” he posted on Facebook on Thursday.
“The West will have to reckon with the reality. Pashinyan's security calculations associated with the West once again failed to materialize.
“The Western negotiation format formalized in Prague the surrender of Artsakh to Azerbaijan, but instead did not provide Armenia with even basic security guarantees. Thus, the regional actors, Russia, Iran and Turkey, are taking the game into their own hands.
“The first two countries are our natural allies, while the last one poses a threat to us. Therefore, it’s necessary to realize that Armenia's future security is linked to Moscow and Tehran,” the politician said.
