Opposition MP: Revenge on Azerbaijan primarily entails ouster of Armenia's top leaders
"Revanchism” has become a post-2020 war buzzword in Armenia and Azerbaijan, says MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction.
“Azerbaijan realizes that there are forces and people in Armenia who simply cannot put up with the current situation (the occupation of Armenia and Artsakh) and see threats emerging from it,” he wrote on Facebook on Friday.
The Armenian leaders, in turn, fear losing power if revanchist sentiments rise strongly in the country, Abrahamyan insisted.
"Taking revenge on Azerbaijan, first of all, entails the immediate ouster of Armenia’s top leaders who are their ideological associates, because "settling scores" with Baku is possible only after it,” the MP said.
He cited third Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s latest statement that revanchist sentiments “are normal in the current situation”, hinting that the idea of regaining a decent life, is essentially linked to the idea of revenge.
