Opposition MP accuses Pashinyan of 'cheap populism' after regional tours
Opposition MP Artur Khachatryan has accused Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of “cheap populism” after his recent tours to Armenian regions to inspect the implementation of the government-funded projects there.
During his visits to regional schools, Pashinyan was upset with many flaws in the design and construction of their gyms, which was followed by the dismissal of the Lori and Armavir governors.
“Given the widespread public discontent, Pashinyan is doing everything he can to shift the blame onto his teammates and subordinates,” the MP told Panorama.am in an interview on Monday.
“He realizes that he has lost public trust and no one wants to listen to the accusations against the former leaders anymore. It’s time to be held to account and he uses the old trick that he employed after the defeat in the 44-day war when he blamed others for Armenia’s defeat. That’s why he has organized all this show: tearing down hooks, inspecting restrooms and garbage containers. All this amounts to cheap populism,” Khachatryan stated.
The MP insisted on the ouster of the top government leaders to avoid "irreparable consequences".
