Armenian MP calls Aliyev's peace deal proposal 'tempting'
Senior pro-government MP Andranik Kocharyan believes that enhancing Armenia's security system will force Azerbaijan to withdraw its troops from the Armenian territory.
"Our unified force should make Azerbaijan withdraw its troops, and it’s not only about the army," he told reporters on Thursday.
"We must strengthen our security environment every single day," stressed Kocharyan, who heads the parliamentary committee on defense and security.
Asked whether he believes it is possible for Azerbaijan to pull out its troops from the occupied Armenian lands in the foreseeable future, he said, "Yes, we should first try peaceful solutions."
Commenting on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s latest remarks that there is no need for any guarantors for the signing of a peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku, Andranik Kocharyan noted that "it is a very tempting proposal."
"We should independently be able to dialogue with each other and find common ground," the MP added.
