Armenian court OKs detention of soldier charged with killing officer
An Armenian court has approved the detention of a soldier charged with murdering an army office this week, the Investigative Committee reports.
Contract officer Karen Karapetyan was found dead with a gunshot wound at a combat outpost early on Tuesday morning.
A conscript, identified by his initials as N.Kh., was arrested as part of a criminal investigation into the incident.
In a statement on Friday, the law-enforcement agency said the soldier committed the crime following a dispute with the officer over violations of combat duty rules.
The serviceman has been charged with murder under Article 155.1 of Armenia’s Criminal Code.
A preliminary probe is underway.
