Minister: 28 babies born to fallen Armenian soldiers' families under surrogacy program in 2023
A total of 28 babies were born to the families of fallen servicemen in Armenia under the government-funded surrogacy program in 2023, Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan said on Friday.
Speaking at a news conference, she noted that 159 babies were born as part of the state program to overcome infertility last year. 28 out of 159 babies were born to the families of fallen servicemen.
Avanesyan recalled that the government expanded the scope of the program beneficiaries, raising the age from 53 to 55 for IVF and from 35 to 38 for surrogate mothers. She unveiled plans for legislative amendments to further expand the number of beneficiaries.
"There is also a problem of secondary infertility in Armenia. The Armenian government is planning to implement programs in this direction as well," she said.
