Expert: Azerbaijan seeks non-existence of Armenia
Vardan Voskanyan, a Yerevan-based expert on Iran, has rejected the “delusional” claims that Azerbaijan could agree to peace with Armenia, which would not at least threaten its existence.
"Apparently, the main argument for this misconception is that peace could be beneficial to Baku and its supporter, Ankara, because it will help them neutralize Russian influence in the South Caucasus,” he wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
“This claim is, to put it mildly, gravely mistaken as Baku’s barbaric regime and its patron see a completely different and more “reasonable” way to resolve this issue. They seek the actual non-existence of Armenia, which would completely remove Russian influence [from the South Caucasus]," Voskanyan stated.
He urged Armenian officials to "put aside illusions" in talks with Baku and stressed the need for building a strong Armenian state.
