Yerevan court OKs detention of ex-army deputy chief
A first instance court in Yerevan on Monday allowed prosecutors to hold Tiran Khachatryan, the former deputy chief of the Armenian military's General Staff, in pre-trial detention for two months.
“Judge Gagik Poghosyan ordered Lieutenant General Tiran Khachatryan’s arrest for two months,” his lawyer Varazdat Harutyunyan said.
The former top military official was arrested following a shooting at a restaurant in the village of Aramus last week, which left one person wounded.
He has been charged with “hooliganism committed with a weapon” under Article 297 of Armenia’s Criminal Code.
