Pro-government MP: No Russian control envisaged over road through Syunik
The 9 November 2020 trilateral statement of the Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani leaders does not envisage Russian control over any road passing through Armenia’s Syunik Province, pro-government MP Gevorg Papoyan claims.
“The statement includes no such clause,” the deputy from the ruling Civil Contract party told reporters on Tuesday, in response to a remark that clause 9 of the statement says Russian border guards are to control a road linking Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan via Syunik.
He stressed the document only committed Armenia to allow a road to be set up through its territory.
“We are ready to open it anytime in compliance with our legislation," the MP said, accusing Russia and Azerbaijan of failure to fulfil their commitments under the statement.
“We do not violate the statement, as clause 9 uses no such wording. This is something from the realm of dreams and desires,” Papoyan added.
