Over 1,000 people hospitalized with ARIs and pneumonia in Armenia, doctor says
Acute respiratory infections (ARIs) are actively circulating in Armenia, warns Yevgenya Khachatryan, an epidemiologist at the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
“The infections almost doubled over the past week but remained unchanged from the same month last year,” she told Panorama.am in an interview on Thursday, adding children make up 65 percent of infected persons.
As of January 17, 735 patients, mostly children, were hospitalized with acute respiratory infections in the country. 328 others remained hospitalized with pneumonia.
"Influenza A virus subtypes H1N1 and H3N2, which is the most prevalent, influenza B virus pathogens, as well as other respiratory infections, including respiratory viruses, continue to circulate in the country,” the doctor said.
Covid-19 continues to circulate in Armenia, but its spread rate is showing signs of stabilizing.
130 Covid cases were recorded in the country in the first two weeks of 2024, down by three cases from the previous two weeks. "Coronavirus cases have somewhat stabilized in the country," she added.
The epidemiologist calls for ventilating rooms often, carrying out wet cleaning and consulting a doctor as soon as the symptoms appear to prevent the spread of disease.
