Ex-FM Vartan Oskanian to lead commission for repatriation of Artsakh people
Armenia’s former Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian will lead a commission tasked with ensuring the collective repatriation of the Artsakh people and the protection of their fundamental rights.
In a statement on Thursday, Oskanian said he had accepted the proposal of the commission members to coordinate its activities.
“The commission’s key task will be to advocate and ensure the collective repatriation of the people of Artsakh under international guarantees and their right to live safely and with dignity in their homeland,” the former FM penned.
“I am convinced that resolving this issue will contribute to the establishment of real peace between the two peoples. The establishment of lasting peace in the region is impossible when a part of the Armenian people is forcibly displaced from their homeland and a subordinate "peace" is imposed on Armenia amid threats of new losses. Such "stability" cannot last long. Only a balanced solution to the problem, including the restoration of the Artsakh Armenians’ rights, can bring lasting and durable peace to the region,” Oskanian added.
