Former MP slams Pashinyan's 'disgraceful' plan to change constitution
Former Armenian MP Aram Manukyan has blasted Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's “disgraceful” plan to change the county’s constitution.
Speaking at a meeting on Friday, Pashinyan said that Armenia needed a new constitution to become “more competitive and more viable in the new geopolitical and regional conditions.”
In an interview to Aravot on Monday, Manukyan, the deputy chairman of former President Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s Armenian National Congress party, insisted that Pashinyan’s plan was in line with the demands from Turkey and Azerbaijan.
“Turkey demands it because the Declaration of Independence, which the Constitution refers to, makes a mention of the Armenian Genocide recognition, while Azerbaijan points to its reference to the 1 December 1989 resolution on the reunification of the Armenian SSR and Nagorno-Karabakh,” he said.
“Pashinyan's plan is utterly disgraceful,” Manukyan remarked, calling him a “weak leader” who is ready to make concessions.
