Borrell: EU concerned about Aliyev's territorial claims to Armenia
The European Union on Monday expressed serious concern over Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s latest territorial claims to Armenia.
“We agreed that Azerbaijan needs to return to substantive peace and normalization talks with Armenia,” EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said after chairing a meeting of the EU foreign ministers that discussed the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process.
“The latest territorial claims by President Aliyev are very concerning, and any violation of Armenia’s territorial integrity would be unacceptable and will have severe consequences for our relations with Azerbaijan,” Borrell told a press briefing in Brussels.
Citing the 9 November 2020 agreement, Aliyev renewed his demands for a so-called “corridor” through Armenia earlier this month and also demanded Armenian withdrawal from “eight Azerbaijani villages”.
