Armenian customs officers reveal illegal coffee sales scheme
Customs officers of Armenia's State Revenue Committee (SRC) have revealed a scheme to illegally sale coffee in the country.
In a statement on Wednesday, the SRC said its customs officers recently checked a truck loaded with the cargo of two companies, Agat Ashot LLC and Cafe Du Brazil LLC, at the Bagratashen checkpoint on the border with Georgia.
According to the accompanying documents, a number of products, including coffee and mineral water, were to be transported from Armenia to Russia.
The inspection revealed that the weight of the coffee batch indicated in the documents was more than its actual weight, while the weight of other cheaper products was understated, preserving the total weight of the cargo.
According to the SRC's preliminary assessment, the purpose of this illegal scheme was the shadow sale of coffee in Armenia, disguising it in shipping documents as export to the EAEU countries in order to get VAT refund on the purchase and, accordingly, to avoid paying VAT for it.
The SRC said extensive measures were underway to reveal all the details of the scheme.
