Tigran Mansurian: God blessed me to reach age 85
A concert marking world-renowned Armenian composer Tigran Mansurian’s 85th birth anniversary will be held at Yerevan’s Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall on January 27.
The concert features the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra led by Sergey Smbatyan, viola player Sergei Poltavsky and violin prodigy Leia Zhu.
"We have an important concert tomorrow," Mansurian told a news conference on Friday.
"This is certainly one of the most responsible concerts for me. God blessed me to see age 85. God gave me the joy to reach this milestone. My 85th birthday will be celebrated with a symphonic concert," the maestro said.
Popular works of the composer will be performed at the jubilee event.
The program features Tigran Mansurian's Concerto for Viola and Orchestra No. 1 and Violin Concerto No. 1, as well as his film scores.
At the end of the press conference, the musicians of the State Symphony Orchestra surprised the maestro by performing excerpts from his film scores.
