150,000 Armenians forcibly displaced from Artsakh since 2020 war, MP says
As many as 150,000 Armenians have been forcibly displaced from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) since the 44-day war in 2020, MP Tigran Abrahamyan claims.
“When talking about forcibly displaced Armenians of Artsakh or simply about the genocidal policy of Azerbaijan, it is necessary to refer to 150,000 people instead of 120,000,” Abrahamyan, the secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, wrote on Facebook on Monday.
"This is a key political and social issue. The forced displacement of Artsakh Armenians from the Hadrut, Shushi and Martakert districts started during the 44-day war, while they were forced to leave their homes in the Kashatagh, Shahumyan (Karvachar) and Akna districts after their handover [to Azerbaijan] under the November 9 tripartite statement," the MP said.
He noted that from the 44-day war in 2020 to September 2023, between 35,000 and 40,000 people left Artsakh due to various events.
"However, the reason was obviously the same: Azerbaijan's aggressive policy, which, with the criminal consent of the Armenian authorities, led to the final surrender of Artsakh. All programs of the government must necessarily be implemented for 150,000 people," Abrahamyan added.
