Lawyer criticizes plans to change Armenian history subject name
Lawyer Gevorg Danielyan has criticized the government’s plans to change the name of the school subject Armenian History to the History of Armenia.
The decision drafted by the Ministry of Education has already been put to a vote on the government website e-draft. The ministry argues that the Armenian History also implies the history of the absence of statehood and cites the experience of Kazakhstan and India.
“Terminology is an integral part of the Armenian studies and national identity, so you should not look for the possible reasons for deviation from statehood in the names that have stood the test of time and have been widely accepted,” Danielyan wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
“National originality is part of world culture protected by international norms. In his work of the same name, Movses Khorenatsi mostly spoke about Armenian statehood, and unfortunately, no name can stop someone aiming to deviate from statehood,” he added.
