Former MP Armen Charchyan handed down suspended prison sentence
Famous doctor Armen Charchyan, the director of the Izmirlian Medical Center and a former MP from the opposition Hayastan faction, has been handed down a suspended jail term.
Yerevan’s Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction, under presiding judge Vahe Misakyan, on Monday found him guilty of election influence charges and gave him a four-year suspended prison sentence, setting a probation period of three years.
Taking into account the period of Charchyan's detention, he received a final sentence of imprisonment for 3 years, 7 months and 10 days.
The ban on the doctor’s exit from the country will remain in force until the court ruling takes effect, his lawyer said.
Charchyan was charged with pressuring his subordinates to participate in the 2021 parliamentary elections and vote for the Hayastan alliance.
