Armenia's education minister defends plans to change school history subject title
Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan defended the plans to change the name of a school subject, Armenian History, to the History of Armenia.
Addressing lawmakers on Tuesday, she stated debates on the matter were nothing new.
Andreasyan gave assurances that no changes would be made to the curriculum of the history textbooks.
“We live in the Republic of Armenia and the history of Armenia should be taught in the country’s schools,” she argued. “This does not mean at all – and I would like to highlight the absurd claims – that the change of the subject title to the History of Armenia would remove the content that is part of our history. This is not about content at all. The content remains the same regardless of the names.”
