Aliyev casts ballot in Artsakh's capital
The voter turnout at the snap presidential elections in Azerbaijan stood at 19.44% on Wednesday morning, the country’s Central Electoral Commission reported.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev cast his ballot in Stepanakert, the capital of the Artsakh Republic, which was ethnically cleansed of its Armenian population and occupied by Azerbaijani forces in September 2023.
According to Azerbaijani media reports, Aliyev arrived at the polling station with his wife and other family members. Traditionally, Aliyev voted at the School No. 6 polling station in Baku. However, this time he decided to vote in Stepanakert for propaganda purposes.
Seven candidates are running for president in Azerbaijan. Aliyev called the snap elections shortly after the complete occupation of the Republic of Artsakh and the exodus of its indigenous Armenian population.
