Yerevan councilor defends plans to raise public transport fares
Yerevan City Council member Artak Zeynalyan has defended the plans to increase the prices for public transport in the Armenian capital.
“During the election campaign, I insisted on the need to raise the public transport fares,” Zeynalyan, who represents the Republic faction, told reporters on Wednesday.
He highlights the cost price of the transport fares is 230 drams, while the current fares in Yerevan stand at 100 drams.
“The planned price increase also implies a government-subsidized co-payment. We have enormous problems in Yerevan, including with water supplies, drainage and electricity supplies. We need large expenses and this is a luxury we can't afford,” Zeynalyan argued.
