Pro-government MP comments on possible meeting of Armenian, Azeri speakers
The Armenian authorities welcome any contact with Azerbaijan aimed at promoting the peace process, says MP Gevorg Papoyan of Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party.
His comments came after reports of a possible meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani parliament speakers on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly scheduled to take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on 23-27 March.
“We welcome any contact aimed at strengthening the peace process,” Papoyan told reporters on Wednesday.
Separately, the MP shrugged off National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan’s absence from Tuesday’s board meeting of the Civil Contract party chaired by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
He said some board members may miss the meetings due to their activities or for personal reasons.
