Public transport fare increase pulled off from Yerevan City Council agenda
The draft decision to increase the prices for public transport in Yerevan has been withdrawn from the agenda of the upcoming Yerevan City Council meeting, Yerevan Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan has revealed.
"The draft decision of the Yerevan City Council to launch a unified ticketing system has been widely discussed,” he wrote on Facebook on Friday.
“I am glad that apart from political speculations and outright lies, I am also coming across very restrained, civilized and constructive criticism and questions. In these conditions, I have decided for myself to ignore these speculations and fuss as much as possible, focusing on opinions aimed at coming to a correct and fair decision," the deputy mayor said.
"I’d like to assure you that all the questions and constructive criticism have prompted additional debates and vetting of the decision in the City Council. In this regard, I’ve asked the mayor to remove this item from the agenda of the upcoming City Council meeting for a more comprehensive discussion of the draft decision before it's again submitted to the City Council," Grigoryan noted.
The plans to increase the public transport fares have triggered strong criticism both from ordinary citizens and experts.
