Armenian border residents frightened after Azeri shooting
On February 13, on the instruction of Armenia's Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan an examination was initiated regarding human rights violations as a result of the Azerbaijani fire towards the Armenian combat posts near the border village of Nerkin Hand in Syunik Province.
"As a result of the fire of the Azerbaijani armed forces in the direction of Nerkin Hand, the right to life, to live in a safe environment, to education and other fundamental rights of the civilian population were violated," the ombudsperson's office said in a statement.
The residents told the defender's staff that the shots were clearly heard, as a result of which they were scared and in a state of uncertainty.
"The HRD especially emphasizes that the actions of the Azerbaijani military represent a real threat from the viewpoint of ensuring the right to life and security of people, education, as well as other fundamental rights. The work of monitoring and collecting facts related to human rights continues in the Office of the Human Rights Defender," reads the statement.
