Former Armenian Ombudsperson Larisa Alaverdyan offered her condolence to the families of the four Armenian soldiers killed by Azerbaijani fire on Tuesday, as well as the entire Armenian nation.

“The enemy targets the entire Armenian nation, rather than individuals,” she told a news conference hosted by the Hayeli Press Club on Wednesday.

Alaverdyan, the chairwoman of the Against Legal Arbitrariness NGO, blamed the current leadership’s policies for Armenian military casualties, waring of existential threats facing Armenia's statehood.

She also highlighted that February 20 is one of the significant dates in Armenia's modern history which marked the start of the active stage of the Artsakh movement in 1988.

On February 20, 1988, the extraordinary session of the Council of People's Deputies 20th convocation of NKAO passed a decision to appeal to the Supreme Councils of the Azerbaijani SSR and Armenian SSR “to demonstrate a sense of deep understanding of the aspirations of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh and resolve the question of transferring NKAO from the Azerbaijani SSR to the Armenian SSR, at the same time to intercede with the Supreme Council of the USSR to reach a positive resolution on the issue of transferring the region from the Azerbaijani SSR to the Armenian SSR”.

Alaverdyan urged everyone to visit the Yerablur Military Pantheon in Yerevan on February 20, at 12pm, to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers and to join a rally called by the alternative socio-political movement Together (Miasin) in Yerevan’s central Liberty Square at 4։30pm.

In the ex-ombudswoman’s words, more than 100 reasons will be outlined at the rally for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation.
