CSTO warns of high conflict risk on Armenian-Azerbaijani border
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has warned of a high risk of conflict on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
At a press briefing on Wednesday, Colonel-General Andrey Serdyukov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, stressed the need for the signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan to settle the situation.
"There are attempts by some states to strengthen their own positions in the South Caucasus, to gain access to the Caspian Sea resources and to ensure direct access to Central Asia," Serdyukov said. “For this purpose, the high conflict potential on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is widely used, among other things. The conclusion of a peace agreement remains essential in the further settlement of the situation".
