Armenian NCDC chief dismissed
Artavazd Vanyan has been dismissed as director of Armenia’s National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) at his own request.
Remarkably, the order on his dismissal was signed by Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan on 30 January but has not yet been posted on the ministry website.
"We do not publish individual orders. We only make structural changes," Mariam Tsatryan, the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health, told Panorama.am.
NCDC deputy head Nune Bakunts has been appointed its acting director.
Reports suggested lingering tensions between Avanesyan and Vanyan, a long-time health official.
After Vanyan's dismissal, NCDC spokesperson Siranush Zakaryan, who is currenttly on vacation, is also expected to leave her job.
