Ex-Armenian minister sees no political motives behind his criminal case
Armenia’s former Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan believes the criminal case launched against him is not politically motivated.
He submitted resignation on Wednesday, one day before being charged as part of a corruption investigation in the Ministry of Economy regarding the alleged rigging of a procurement tender.
"What does [Prime Minister] Nikol Pashinyan have to do with this case? I don't see any political reasons," Kerobyan told journalists at the Anti-Corruption Court before the delivery of the court decision on his measure of restraint on Friday.
Kerobyan declined to answer any questions regarding the charges against him, citing the ongoing investigation.
"Please don't ask questions about the case!" he asked.
When asked who he sees as a worthy successor to the post of Armenia's economy minister, Vahan Kerobyan said that “there are no irreplaceable people.”
The Anti-Corruption Court ordered that Kerobyan be placed under house arrest for two months pending the outcome of the probe.
