Serzh Sargsyan says more Azeri attacks possible in other border areas
Former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan says Azerbaijan may launch fresh attacks on Armenian army positions in an effort to extort new concessions from Armenia.
His comments come after four Armenian soldiers were killed and another was wounded when their combat positions near the village of Nerkin Hand in Syunik Province came under Azerbaijani fire early on Tuesday.
“Azerbaijan’s rhetoric is now marked by instructions. I don’t rule out that the Nerkin Hand incident may repeat itself in other areas. Yesterday’s Armenian cabinet meeting slightly hinted at new concessions in exchange for nothing under the current pressure,” Sargsyan told reporters after a court hearing in his case on Friday.
The ex-president stresses that this situation will persist until the current Armenian government is forced to resign.
Sargsyan also dismissed the Armenian government officials’ claims that the planned change of constitution is aimed at "buying time”.
“I don’t think the Armenian leaders' efforts to buy time are aimed at anything other than extending their grip on power,” he added.
