Union of Banks chief: HSBC has withdrawn from around 7 countries after 2021
Chairman of Armenia’s Union of Banks Daniel Azatyan welcomes the changes taking place in Armenia’s banking system.
“It gives fresh impetus to the system. The presence of global banking brands in our banking system remains important," Azatyan told a news conference in Yerevan on Tuesday.
His comments came after the Bank of Georgia announced on Monday a $303.6 million deal to buy Armenia’s Ameriabank.
In Azatyan’s words, the data available online about HSBC Bank shows that the bank has adopted a policy of transferring its assets to profit centers and entering other markets.
"Only after 2021, HSBC has withdrawn from around seven countries. It’s about the French retail business, the markets of Greece, the U.S. and others,” he noted, adding that even before that the bank had left the CIS countries and stayed only in Armenia.
Daniel Azatyan states that such transactions are made as a result of long negotiations in compliance with internationally recognized rules.
