Synergy chief Ashot Hovanesian set free
Director of Synergy International Systems Ashot Hovanesian has been released from custody about three weeks after being arrested in a corruption investigation.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Prosecutor General’s Office said Hovanesian had testified about “circumstances essential to the criminal proceedings” and was less likely to engage in misconduct.
In early February, the Synergy owner and its two current and former employees, Lili Mkryan and Ani Gevorgyan, were arrested and charged with helping officials of Armenia’s Ministry of Economy rig a procurement tender which was won by Synergy but invalidated by a court last June. The two women were moved to house arrest later.
Former Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan has also been indicted as part of the ongoing corruption probe.
