Young Armenian weightlifter says 'delighted' to have won European gold
Young Armenian weightlifter Aleksandra Grigoryan, who clinched a gold medal at the 2024 European Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, shared her impressions with reporters at Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport on Thursday.
“I am delighted to have won the European title and raised the Armenian flag,” the 19-year-old noted.
Grigoryan won the women’s 55kg gold after a total lift of 196kg (81+115).
The athlete said after the snatch she did not have much hope of becoming a champion with a combined result.
"But I bucked up, fought and managed to take the first place," Grigoryan said.
As the athlete noted, the Armenian women's weightlifting team will not be represented at the Paris Olympics, but they will try to achieve good results at the 2028 Olympic Games.
