Opposition MP blames Armenian authorities for failure to counter Azeri propaganda
Opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan has blamed the Armenian authorities for failure to counter the false Azerbaijani propaganda narrative regarding the so-called “Khojaly massacre”.
“Numerous Azerbaijani and international media reports about the events that took place in the settlement of Ivanyan (formerly Khojaly) during the first Artsakh war are circulating these days,” Abrahamyan, the secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, wrote on Facebook on Monday.
He claimed until 2018 Armenia made extensive efforts to expose the Azerbaijani lies, carrying out large-scale awareness campaigns in international organizations.
“However, under the current government, the counteraction has been pushed into the background,” the MP stated.
"Azerbaijan, which used the town of Khojaly as a firing point and its own people as a human shield, killed some of the civilians leaving Khojaly in the settlement of Akna (formerly Aghdam) to use it in domestic political processes and to accuse Armenia of genocide. This lie has been exposed even in Azerbaijan, but it continues to “cook” amid the Armenian leadership’s criminal negligence and lack of reaction," Abrahamyan added.
