Analyst names Pashinyan's main 'weapon' in possible snap elections
Political analyst Suren Surenyants believes outright anti-Russian policy and Armenia’s promised withdrawal from the CSTO will be Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s main political “weapon” in the upcoming snap parliamentary elections hinted by his allies.
“Moldovan President Maia Sandu seeks re-election in the fall, using the country's European integration as her main weapon. She plans to hold a referendum on this matter in parallel to presidential elections (the legislation was specially changed to combine a referendum with presidential elections),” Surenyants wrote on Facebook on Monday.
“The law in Armenia also prohibits combining a referendum with parliamentary elections. But this is a technical problem for Nikol Pashinyan and his Civil Contract party.
“The figures close to Pashinyan have already hinted that the country will be holding snap elections to the National Assembly and a constitutional referendum on the same day this fall. Pashinyan's "weapon" will be his outright anti-Russian position and his promise for Armenia’s withdrawal from the CSTO," the analyst stated.
