Pro-government MP comments on Zelensky's possible visit to Armenia
MP Babken Tunyan, who represents Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party, has reacted to reports of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s possible visit to the country.
“I have no information on this matter. I guess the other members of the Civil Contract faction also lack any knowledge,” he told reporters on Monday.
Meanwhile, Babken Tunyan believes Zelensky’s visit to Armenia is not unlikely.
As to whether he sees no threats to the country posing from the Ukrainian leader’s possible visit to Yerevan, the MP emphasized that he does not consider himself a “big expert” in security issues.
"I don't want to assess its positive or negative implications. After all, the Ukrainian president is an elected leader, just like the leaders of other countries, if there is no special ban, he can visit Armenia," Tunyan said.
To the remark that Zelensky’s visit to Armenia can be seen as a message to Russia as it is pushed for by the U.S., the MP highlighted that no official statements had been issued regarding it.
"In fact, anti-Russian overtones can be found in everything if you look for them. Anti-Russian overtones can be found in connection with the ratification of the Rome Statute and any other decisions. I’d refrain from commenting on it so long as there is no official statement on the visit," the MP added.
