Parliament speaker: I don't mind living in peace with Azerbaijan and Turkey
No information on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Armenia is currently available, Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan says.
“If such a visit takes place, I think it will be part of a regional trip,” the speaker told reporters on Tuesday.
Media reports suggest that Zelenskiy is planning to visit Yerevan and Baku in March.
Speaking about the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process and referring to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s latest statement that "Armenia’s only option is to accept all the conditions put forward by Azerbaijan", Alen Simonyan said: "All steps should be reciprocal and making demands is wrong rhetoric, especially when the delegations of the two countries are scheduled to meet in a few days.”
“At the time when negotiations were held, Azerbaijan always firmed at Armenian troops in an effort to put pressure on Yerevan. Aliyev put the term "corridor" into circulation and we managed to remove this discourse with great difficulty. When Armenia decides to change something in its Constitution, it will do so,” he stressed.
Simonyan expressed the Armenian leadership’s readiness to discuss solutions to all pending issues with Azerbaijan.
"All countries should live peacefully with each other and I am not against living in peace with Azerbaijan and Turkey," the speaker said.
In Simonyan’s words, around 25 confirmed prisoners, including former Artsakh leaders, are now being held in Baku and negotiations are underway to repatriate them.
