Azerbaijani soldier arrested after illegally crossing into Armenia
The Azerbaijani serviceman, who illegally crossed the border into Armenia on Wednesday, has been placed under arrest.
The soldier, identified as Ruslan Panahov, was captured by Armenian troops near the border village of Tegh in Syunik Province. He was armed with an assault rifle and a mag of bullets.
In a statement on Thursday, the Investigative Committee said the soldier had been charged with illegally crossing into Armenia, smuggling firearms and ammunition and attempting to commit murder by motives of national and religious hatred.
A preliminary probe is underway to establish all circumstances of the incident.
