Armenia's ex-economy minister appeals house arrest
Armenia’s former Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan has appealed his house arrest imposed by the Anti-Corruption Court.
"However, we do not have high hopes. If the body dealing with the proceedings had been rational, this measure of restraint should not have been applied, especially given our claims that in the criminal case we do not see any testimony or evidence against Kerobyan that he would like to change," his lawyer Tigran Yegoryan told reporters on Thursday.
Kerobyan, who stepped down as Armenia’s economy minister on February 14, has been charged with abuse of office strongly denied by him and placed under house arrest for two months.
His lawyer said they had asked the law-enforcement authorities to allow Kerobyan to respond to job offers and work during the house arrest.
"It's possible both legally and technically. Kerobyan could have been allowed to attend work for designated hours, but the request was rejected," the lawyer said, without elaborating on the job offers.
