EU sees Armenia as a key partner in South Caucasus, military chief says
The head of Armenia's Mission to the European Union, Ambassador Tigran Balayan has met with Chairman of the EU Military Committee Robert Brieger.
General Brieger presented the pan-European security perspectives, military and defense strategy of the European Union and the deriving priorities. In this context, he singled out Armenia as EU's important partner in the South Caucasus region, the Armenian mission reported.
"Ambassador Balayan thanked for receiving him and expressed his appreciation for the high level partnership between Armenia and the EU, while stressing the importance of widening its security and defense component. He drew the attention of his colleague to the wide-scale military reforms program initiated by the Government of Armenia and in this context emphasized the need for EU support," it said in a statement.
While speaking about the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA), the diplomat noted its important stabilizing role in the context of regional security.
The two exchanged thoughts about the recent developments in South Caucasus and Eastern Europe, regional security perspectives and cooperation opportunities.
