Yerevan Conservatory leaders share concerns over its possible merger
The leadership of the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory shares the indignation and sincere concerns of the music community regarding the future of Armenia’s sole higher musical education institution.
The comments came after soprano Anna Poghosyan, a Yerevan Conservatory lecturer, warned about tits closure in a social media post on Monday.
“The leadership of the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory unveiled its position on the merger of art universities in writing to the minister of education, science, culture and sports back in 2023. It’s also presented to the Strategy Development Committee and the chairman of the Scientific Committee,” the institution said in a statement, addressing its staff.
The institution added that YSC Rector Sona Hovhannisyan reiterated the Conservatory leadership’s position on the matter at the February meeting of the YSC Scientific Council, providing substantiations for it and making proposals.
“It's possible to resolve this issue only if we present our common position in a balanced, reasonable and respectful way," reads the statement.
