Ex-Yerevan mayor banned from attending municipal council meeting
Former Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, who was ousted from the City Council along with two other opposition members on February 5, was banned from attending a municipal council session on Tuesday.
Speaking with reporters outside the Municipality, he said the city authorities had illegally rejected the National Progress faction's request to allow Marutyan to attend and address the session.
The ex-mayor claims the local self-government law allows individuals invited by the municipal council factions and the mayor to attend its meetings.
He criticized the proposed public transport fare hike in the Armenian capital, stating the payment plans should not be mandatory.
Marutyan unveiled his team's plans to boycott the Yerevan municipal assembly session and urged the other opposition factions to join their colleagues to prevent the passage of the draft decision on public transport fares.
