Armenia, Azerbaijan still disagree on key issues, FM says
Armenian continues constructive efforts to establish lasting and sustainable peace in the South Caucasus, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said at a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, while discussing the report on the course and results of the implementation of the Armenian government program (2021-2026) in 2023.
The foreign minister reiterated the main principles underlying Armenia's peace talks with Azerbaijan, adding the countries still disagree on key terms of a bilateral peace treaty.
"We have certainly managed to advance on some terms of the draft peace treaty, but no tangible progress has been made towards the principal issues," Mirzoyan said.
The minister also said that informal contacts were held within the framework of the ministerial meeting in Tehran in the 3+2 format.
"Remarkably, immediately after the Azerbaijani president rejected the series of meetings starting from Granada, the meetings between the foreign ministers also stopped. Later in 2024, the foreign ministers resumed their meetings in Munich, holding more talks in Berlin," he noted.
