Armenian opposition MPs denied access to Baku's latest peace proposals
The Armenian Foreign Ministry has denied opposition lawmakers access to Azerbaijan's latest proposals for a peace treaty with Armenia, opposition Hayastan faction MP Gegham Manukyan says.
The request to familiarize themselves with the new package of proposals submitted on February 23 was rejected, he said in a social media post late on Thursday.
The Foreign Ministry argued that disclosure of data at an early stage could hamper negotiations and lead to misinterpretation of the agreement.
Manukyan emphasized that there were no legal grounds for the rejection. The opposition MP charged that the ban on access to the documents was in compliance with Azerbaijan’s demand, which had previously deplored the accessibility of the draft peace deal for Armenian opposition MPs.
“This is yet another arbitrary step aimed at obstructing the work of MPs, preventing them from raising public awareness for the key issue and misleading people by providing one-sided information,” the deputy stated.
