Political analyst speaks to Azerbaijan's demand for handover of border villages
Political analyst Suren Surenyants has weighed in on Azerbaijan’s demand for Armenia to withdraw from four border villages in Tavush Province.
"What is the Azerbaijani demand for the handover of the Tavush territory about? The Armenian army positions deployed in Tavush are perhaps the only ones that remain strong and haven't been affected by the 44-day war in 2020,” he wrote on Facebook on Friday.
“In order to undermine the Armenian defense system, Azerbaijan needs to shake up the status quo in the Tavush section. This is a purely Azerbaijani agenda, which will be realized by Pashinyan's hands. The question begged here is: if the "powerful" West has Armenia’s back, why is the country bowing to Azerbaijan's coercion and blackmail?" the analyst said.
