Armenia can apply for EU membership, official says
Armenia is free to apply for membership in the European Union, Lead Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Peter Stano has said.
“Countries have the right to strive for a better future for their people and they are free to decide how to ensure such a future," he told Izvestia on Friday.
"When it comes to the EU membership, each European country – its people and government – must decide whether it wants to apply for EU membership,” the EU official added.
Stano said that once a country submits an application for EU membership, it is discussed by its member states and then they make a respective decision "based on the EU treaties and established criteria".
