Renowned cellist Alexander Chaushian slams Yerevan Conservatory relocation plan
Internationally acclaimed Armenian cellist Alexander Chaushian has rejected the “terrible” idea to relocate Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory.
“It’s hard for me to understand how someone could come up with such a terrible idea,” the musician said in a video, which was posted on the Facebook page of the movement against the government’s plans to move Conservatory out of Yerevan to the Academic City and merge it with other art universities.
Chaushian likened Yerevan Conservatory to Armenian churches in Etchmiadzin.
“It’s tantamount to the relocation of Etchmiadzin churches because Conservatory is like a church for musicians with its history. It’s the only one of its kind where outstanding figures have studied and worked,” he underscored.
The musician highlights that Yerevan Conservatory graduates now perform on the best stages around the world.
