Armenian health authorities urge measles vaccinations amid rising cases
The Armenian Ministry of Health on Thursday urged people, particularly children and international travelers, to get vaccinated against measles due to the increase in cases this year.
“The global measles cases continue to increase amid a rise in the number of unvaccinated children,” the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
Measles is a highly contagious infectious disease that can easily be spread among unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people.
A measles patient can infect unvaccinated people, even if they live on different floors of the same building, the health authorities warned.
A two-dose vaccine schedule for measles is recommended for children aged 1-6 years.
“We urge the parents of vaccinated children to visit their local polyclinic and get them vaccinated against measles,” reads the statement.
